Megan Skolmen 14/05/15 Film V for Vendetta Director: James McTeigue Release Date: February 2006 I watched a film called V for Vendetta directed by James McTeigue. Briefly, this film is about a mysterious masked man whom we know as ‘V’, who is on a quest for revenge for himself and others considered ‘undesirables’ by the fascist dictatorship government. The film is based in 2038 England, and deals with a corrupted society in which a fascist regime is set in place to seize complete control the citizens through fear, manipulation, and terror. In this dystopian world, the government is your worst enemy and your human rights are immensely violated. Up until our protagonist, V, steps up, the people of England make no attempt to fight for their freedom but instead just do what is expected. Overall, V for Vendetta is a film in which I quite thoroughly enjoyed and is one that I find to be rather important to watch, but difficult to explain as it is kind of cryptic and hard at times to understand the context. V for Vendetta is great ly thought provoking and deals with concerns that aren’t all that hard to imagine. Although the movie is difficult to follow at points – this could be simply due to my lack of inquisitive, not a fault of the film – it is definitely one to pay attention to. I have to admit, the film is not what I imagined, yet I was pleasantly surprised and intrigued. It starts as your typical hero vs. villain film, but turns deeply political very quickly.
